I really do think this is a great idea as well as an admirably daunting task. You're good & you've got good design instincts. I dig what you do.

Thats quite the regimen to take on. I do something not so routine like yourself. When I'm browsing websites from <a href="http://drawar.com/gallery" rel="nofollow">drawar gallery</a> and find one that I particularly like I'll go ahead and replicate it without looking at there source code or stylesheet. After the replication, I'll redo the redesign keeping the color scheme the same and only change the layout to my perspective of how I would like to see it. But I only do this when I find an attractive enough website. Definitely don't do one everyday, because of it becoming a routine and results to not enjoying doing it no more.

You've made some really good points here. While reading I realized that when I'm at an ecommerce site I am usually in a completely different mindset... ready to filter down results until I click BUY and less interested in scanning & exploring. btw, I love the spy vs spy graphic.

this book is a gateway drug.
if you buy this book, you will inevitably buy more type books.

oh, they are the most interesting books in the world.

If you want to get into the nitty-gritty of letter & type design, I highly recommend Karen Cheng's Designing Type.

Nice review, I loved this book and have referenced it a few times since I read it the other week. I don't think the writing was too slow, I thought the length was perfect (although I didn't read every chapter word for word). There were some really funny lines (geeky, but funny).

Thanks for writing such a comprehensive (and fun to read) book, guys.

Like Trent said, it is great to get some spare time away from a screen every once and a while and sink your teeth into some tech-savvy parchment.
